Jack Edwards joined his first ship SS Empire Rosalind as 3rd R/O in Liverpool in March 1944.
He sent me this crew list in 2002.
“It shows the variety of nationalities on merchant ships in WW2. The PJX, CJX and DJX numbers
were R.N. men who manned the 4” gun and the Oerlikon anti-aircraft guns. The bottom five
were army gunners who manned the Bofors anti-aircraft gun. The voyage lasted about a year in
the Mediterranean area ferrying troops and equipment between Italy and Egypt, North Africa
and Palestine. We took American troops to the South of France invasion beaches”.
